Welcome to this week’s FC Throwback, where we take a look back at some of our favourite previous feature cars. This week it’s Lloyd Bickerstaffe’s modified Peugeot 106 GTi from back in 2013…
York-based Fast Car fan Lloyd Bickerstaffe smashes a home run with his smooth 106…
We get tons of fresh looking 106s sent into Fast Car Towers, so finding one that really stands out can be a bit of a challenge! We’ve had our eyeballs all over Lloyd’s motor for quite a while now, so when he told us it was ready, we wasted no time in getting it snapped up for a feature!
This is Lloyd’s second 106, and after popping his modding cherry on a little 1.1-litre, he moved onto the daddy GTi model. “I’ve always loved hot hatches and after owning a 1.1 for a year I had to have more power and something worthy of modding,” explains Lloyd. With only 42,000 miles on the clock it was a mint example and ready for Lloyd to get stuck in with a bunch of tasty mods!
A fellow 106 owner was breaking their own car, so Lloyd snapped up a few bits, including a custom front end with badboy bonnet, smoothed wings and a full 306 GTi-6 headlight conversion.
The car was coming together quickly, but the mismatched colours of the new panels were never going to win him any scene points! Before booking the car in for a respray, Lloyd added a few more touches. The door handles have been completely smoothed, along with the locks and badges. The boot has also been treated to some smoothing and the bump strips extended. With the prep sorted, Lloyd handed the keys over to his mate Carl for a fresh coat of paint. From boot to bonnet Carl has covered every inch of the little pug in Audi TT Montana Green – a very fresh finish.
It seems we can’t feature a car at the moment that’s not got the remains of our Ben Chandler’s old Saxo in it! Only a few months ago we featured Adam Lloyd’s 106 with Ben’s old seats in, and this time it’s the audio! The rear seats have been removed to make room for the Plush Automotive install that now lives in the back of Lloyd’s Peugeot. Before being fitted it was freshened up and the false floor extended.
Up front the old seats have been swapped in favour of a set of Edition 30 tartan seats taken from a Mk5 Golf GTI. The original dash has been binned off and replaced with the better looking Saxo dash. To finish off the interior Lloyd has covered the door cards, roof lining and install in black Alcantara. Nice.
When it came to decking the Pug, Lloyd turned to his mate, and ex-cover car owner Jamie Winter. Between them the lads have sat the 106 on its arse using Gaz coilovers and a re-set torsion beam. The Gotti 2-piece splits were broken down and refurbed, before being wrapped in Nankang tyres and fitted up.
On a relatively small budget, Lloyd has transformed his 106 into a real head turner. Top work.
